October is already a fun time of the year but it’s even better if you’re an artist.
In 2009, Illustrator Jake Parker created InkTober to challenge himself to improve his inking skills and it has since grown into a worldwide month-long event. Thousands of illustrators (as well as novices) take part every InkTober and post their ink images on social media.
It’s never too late to join in (unless it’s suddenly November 1). All you need is a pen (ANY kind of pen), or a brush and ink and paper. And if you want to share your creation with the world then you’ll also need to make use of social media or your blog.
You can absolutely draw anything you want, but Jake has put together an official prompt list for those who want inspiration.
Here’s what you do:
- Make an ink drawing
- post it online
- Add a hashtag: #inktober and #inktober2016
- Do it again the next day (or whenever you’re ready again)
- (optional) Search for the hashtag and see what others are creating
That’s it! Have fun!
